Alexander Wang went full on androgyny for his spring show.
Slicked back hair, less than minimal makeup, and did the models have eyebrows or am I tripping? Either way, they strutted down the runway with the most serious facial expressions! Mr. Wang gave us a sporty yet sophisticated spring 2015 collection which featured bright colors against black mixed with pure white.
Christian Siriano pulled out all the tricks in his hat for this collection! From laser cutout suits (yes SUITS) to floor length ball gowns to the softest of sheath dresses, the spring 2015 collection was a treat from beginning to end. This collection seemed to have a look for every type of style and any kind of event. I’d wear a laser cut suit to the office, who wouldn’t?!
Tadashi Shoji always gives us the romanticism that we need during New York Fashion Week. The sprring and summer collection for 2015 picked up right where he left off (with a little more sexy thrown in). Structured silhouettes were met with sheer cutouts and lace overlays. I really want to have several pieces in my closet to put on for a rainy day or for the days I just want to feel like a queen!
Is it just me or did fashion week sneak up on us this year? Maybe it’s because I have so much other stuff going on now, that it’s hard to keep up with the ever-evolving happenings. Eh. Either way, Curves And Coffee is here to bring you the daily fashion week beats from runway to runway.
Yes, the main focus is the physique of a curvaceous woman here but the love of “all things fashion” prevails each season. So sit back, relax, and enjoy as I bring you my fashion faves from Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week. I’ll try to keep this post “sticky” and updated with all the links to my faves as they’re posted. That way, you guys can simply click here and see if your treasured designer is one of mine as well!
Marissa Webb won’t ever do anything wrong in my book!
She was once the head designer at J.Crew before venturing out into the fashion world with her own label. As a fashion chick who absolutely loves straight lines, Marissa will always be my BFF in my head. Since I don’t work in the traditional office setting, I live vicariously through the girl she designs for. That girl is young, fresh faced and professional and might work in a place requires a jacket or suit pieces everyday.
The collection for spring and summer is very breezy and easy-going with just a touch of structure coming through in jackets.

This collection has “American bad ass and flirty girl” written all over it! Needless to say, I’m totally here for it!
Day one of fashion week in the big apple had a sultry start! Nicholas K got things going with a collection that will have me visiting Dubai immediately! The desert khaki’s and army greens were just the tip of what 2015 will bring! Head wraps, silky fabrics, leather accents, and loose-fitting garbs equals me swooning over every model that took to the runway.

Not only did this collection have all things desert, the makeup was heavenly! Each model looked as if she’d been in the sun and heat all day with dewy skin.
And get ready ladies who love eyeliner and the sexy dark Kajal eyeliner look….
This collection took me to Sex and the City 2 (the movie) if you’ve seen it, you know EXACTLY what I’m thinking!
Back to school week continues! If you’re stylish fashionista like myself (you’re here so I’m going to go with…yes!) it’s hard trying to keep up with what’s in style versus what’s in your wallet. Today, that decision won’t be a hard one, especially with these backpacks! Backpacks are at the TOP of the “what’s trending list” and they aren’t just for students going back to school. They’re for everyone! I managed to find backpacks that are both functional and stylish for everyday use. Check the bags below (or after the jump) to pick out your fave!
Can you believe a simple backpack is over $1,000?! I’ll never get use to seeing a price tag that high! As much as I absolutely love MCM (and have since 19xx….disregard that 😉 ) I can’t imagine paying the cost of a mortgage for a bag. Maybe one day when I’m uber rich and swimming in money but today? Nope!
Anywho… hope these help with your back to school shopping lists!
Pretty sure you aren’t ready to hear the words “Back To School.”
Well, I won’t apologize just yet!
If you’re in college, thinking about what to wear to class is the last thing on your mind. You’re worrying about the cost of books, semester credits, and that weird thing your roommate does in her sleep. Side note, my college roommate was a sleepwalker and totally tried to smother me with a pillow one night…she managed to wake up before my untimely death. FYI: we’re still friends but that’s neither here nor there so I’ll just move right along 🙂
Is there a better way to take your mind off all of those stressful college things than clothes?! Personally, I think not! Previously, I created a“Back To School Bag Guide” for every type of student, better known as the “Bag” To School Guide for any budget. This year, I wanted help my fellow book hoarders with outfit ideas.
First up: DENIM! Plus size jeans (denim) don’t have to be expensive (just like everything else in the mall.) They’re perfect for dressing up, dressing down and anything in between.
All are easy to shop for, affordable, on trend, and totally suitable for going back to class! Be sure to add your own touches to make each look personalized for you. Hopefully these looks will give your brain a boost before hitting the books (definitely a lot less stressful than finals in a few months!)
A couple of weeks ago, I received an invite to participate in Wowcracys’ Best Outfit Challenge. I get a few offers to collaborate with brands, stores, and the like…some I accept and others I reluctantly turn down for whatever reason. This invite was too good to resist!
Well, in short, it’s crowd funding for fashion designers. To be exact… “Wowcracy is where fashion designers and brands can constantly showcase their upcoming collections. Everyone can pre-order new creations in real time and set a new fashion trend.”
Usually, Wowcracy allows the designers to “call the tune” and the new fashion trend but for this particular challenge, they reached out to fashion bloggers. The challenge was/is to create a look for the upcoming 2014-2015 fall and winter season then post that look to Instagram. They clearly didn’t know I just packed and stored all of my winter clothes lol! On top of that, I absolutely hate taking pictures so this was a true challenge for me indeed!
Whoever wins this challenge will have the most ‘likes’ on Instagram. That means YOU, yes YOU need to get your double tap workout on and like-like-like! The pics will be tagged #CTToutfit.
Below is one of the looks that I styled for myself…this IS already posted to my Instagram feed so get to “liking” it!
Dress: Forever 21+
Boots: Marc Jacobs
Jacket: Vintage
This was totally out of character for me, I know BUT absolutely fun nonetheless! Of course, me being the clumsiest and least photogenic person I know…will have a moment in front of the camera for a change! It’s much easier being a stylist than a model (at least that’s what the voices in my head say.)
If there’s any plus size fashion designers or any type of up and coming designers out there, I’d love to collaborate for this project! The deadline is June 30th (short notice, I know) but if not this year, definitely next season we can do something fun!
It’s so easy to forget these days with new trends popping up every other week. Yes, some trends are dope and fun to wear but sometimes, you just want to wrap yourself in a regular pair of boyfriend jeans and a tee!
Recently, I was selected by La Redoute (a fashion store based in the UK) to participate in a competition for fashion bloggers. This competition gives a special blogger a chance to become La Redoutes’ Brand Ambassador and win a trip to Paris! If you’ve been reading along here, you know that I absolutely LOVE Paris!
Needless to say, I hopped on this opportunity! The competition was to simple create a post to display MY personal Style Secrets. This is what this post is about…the classics. My absolute fave classic pieces are just that, jeans and crisp white top.
This look can be worn dressed up or dressed down, on the weekends or even running errands during the week. I gave you guys two different ways to wear one outfit and you’ll look great in either one!
Looking for more classic pieces, jump here (Secrets to French Style by La Redoute) to see what my favorite city in the whole entire world is up to. No one does classic like the French!
