US Open 2016: Lavazza x Andre Agassi “I’m Back”

The US Open kicked off on Monday and I couldn’t be more excited! Not only do I get to see my favorite sport on east coast hours but the legendary Andre Agassi is making his return. Lavazza helped celebrate his return to the US Open. After a decade of being gone from the US Open, he returned.

Ok, that isn’t Andre Agassi but a flash mob of blonde mullet lookalikes that invaded Union Station in New York. Earlier on Tuesday, Agassi teamed up with Lavazza for a celebration that included the flash mob and coffee at NYC’s Nomo Kitchen.

Lavazza Celebrates: the Return of Andre Agassi to the US Open
I don’t know about you but I definitely want a cup of Lavazza after seeing this frothy brewed cup.

To top off all of this goodness, Lavazza will be donating a portion of their sales during the US Open to the Andre Agassi Foundation which will support the education of children. “For every cup of Lavazza coffee ($3) purchased at the US Open this year, one dollar ($1) will be donated to the USTA to support the Andre Agassi Foundation.”  So if you’re in the New York area and going to see some tennis, be sure to help the kids and get your brew crew on!

Fashion at The Australian Open 2015

After two weeks of intense racket swinging, the opener to the 2015 tennis season is now down to a handful of competitors.  The Australian Open 2015 has had many upsets and surprises but its also had some AMAZING sports fashion.

As a huge tennis fan, I couldn’t wait for the 2015 season to get underway so the fashion side of things fell to the sidelines. There’s no better time to shine a spotlight on winning fashion than to showcase the player who’ve made to the quarter finals and semifinals of a grand slam!

Fashion at the Australian Open 2015 featured in this post, are Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams, Eugenie Bouchard, Madison Keys, Venus Williams, and their smashing colors were as loud as their swings on the court!

Nike is CLEARLY shelling out the Lycra, Dri-Fit, and sponsorships throughout the sport of tennis but there are plenty more designers in sportswear. If you visit Midwest Sports, you’ll see many different styles and designers that create great fashion sportswear.

Maybe Nike should cut me a check for loving on these styles….hmm…just a thought.

My personal favorite, Eleven by Venus Williams is available for purchase online or visit Eleven by Venus Williams to find a retailer near you. I’m a fan of clothes that are designed by a real person who not only plays the sport they’re designed for but wears the line during tournaments throughout the year. It’s like a plus-size woman designing clothes for other plus-size women…it just works. They understand how the body moves.

Bright, brighter and brightest seems to be the way to go for sporting the latest fashion while breaking a sweat and I’m very okay with that.

Bring on the day glow fluro!!

Summer Staycation

It’s summer and that usually means, it’s vacation time.

Well, if you’re like me……forever planning a trip but something tends to always pop up that prevents that trip from happening….yea, that’s me. It doesn’t happen that often but for some reason, summer 2013 has been vacation-less. So what happens when a chick that loves to travel gets stranded at home for most of the summer? She finds things to do around town! Below (or after the jump) are a few things I love to do.

Jump in…

I love sports but for anyone who doesn’t, a ballpark is a great place to meet new people and just enjoy the atmosphere. Plus, most ballparks have tons of other things to see and do besides watch the game. I took in a Detroit Tigers vs. Atlanta Braves baseball game earlier this summer and had a ball! Michigan: Detroit Tigers, Colleges and universities.

It’s not what you’re thinking! Ok, maybe it is but not exactly what you’re thinking…take a trip to a mall that’s further from home. Perhaps even plan a group outing to a local outlet mall (because what’s better than shopping? Discount shopping!) Malls are a great place to people watch, have lunch or just escape the heat of the summer. That last one is free so jump all over that one! Michigan: Twelve Oaks, Briarwood, Fairlane, Birchrun Prime Outlets.

This sounds really boring and lame, totally aware of that BUT hear/read me out. A good book by a great writer will have you so deep and involved with the characters that you’ll feel like you’re there! Now, if I head to the bookstore today, I won’t buy a book about clear water and white sand beaches…I’m not trying to be depressed here! I can say this…finding a book on a specific place you’d like to visit may be perfect. Michigan: Barnes & Noble, local libraries.

Every town, every city, and every state has some type of festival during the summer months. Find the one that speaks to your soul and have a go! There’s music, concerts, art festivals, garden festivals…literally, tons of festivals. Just take your pick. Michigan: VisitDetroit.com, Ann Arbor Art Fair.

It doesn’t matter if you’re young or young(er) there’s never a wrong time to learn something new! Check out your local community colleges for enrichment courses that focus on the topic you want to know more about. I’m almost positive you’ll find something you like. Whether it’s cooking, computers, dancing, or tennis, it’s out there waiting for you. Bonus, if you take a dance class or kickboxing class…that’s fun + a workout…so on point! Michigan: Schoolcraft.edu, YMCA.

Hmmm, maybe staying at home this summer isn’t such a bad idea! Hopefully these tips will give you a little inspiration for your “Summer Staycation.” Feel free to find me anywhere in the social media-sphere and share what you’re doing this summer!

NBA Finals: It’s Over, We’re Done

The NBA season is O-V-E-R!

The Miami Heat are YOUR new 2013 World Champions.

photo via Getty Images

It wasn’t an easy feat but the “White Hot” Heat (or Heats if you’re one of those people who add an ‘s’ to the end of everything) have repeat as champions. After a gritty seven games, Miami proved they are the best to defeat the San Antonio Spurs. I guess that whole “not one, not two, not three” speech is slowly but surely becoming a reality for LeBron James.

Isn’t it ironic?

Another sports season comes to an end, summer begins, and I’m breaking up with The Association.

Yes, you read that right. Today is the day I broke up with the NBA. Since there is a new champion well a new/old repeat champion this is the perfect time for me to see other sports. This means there is absolutely no need for me to be concerned about anything the National Basketball Association for at least 6-8 months. Longer if I intend on skipping the entire season and only watching the playoffs like I did this year. Seriously, that was the best decision a chick like me could have EVER made! Why put up with the phantom calls, bad refereeing, bandwagon fans, or overhyped players who may never live up to their potential? I can thoroughly enjoy two full months of actual competitive basketball! A time when teams are really vying to become champion. That’s when players play the hardest (to me at least) they play like there is something lose. Two months of great ass basketball…yea that’s what I want.

Thanks for the memories of 2013 NBA, I’m keeping your t-shirt though…looks great as a sleep shirt on me!

NFL, anyone?!

Father’s Day

Whatever you do…

DON’T

GET

HIM

A

TIE!

He’ll look at it, tell you he loves it but chances are, he’s not going to wear it. There is an exception to this whole “tie thing”, it involves a bigger wallet and a man who has a penchant for the finer things in life. We’ll get to that a little later, be sure to stick around.

For those of you who don’t have the slightest idea of what to get the dad in your life…here we go! Oh and by dad of course I mean: Dad, Hubster, Dad to be, and/or any man who holds the title. Think of the things he likes which includes sports, television, movies, activities, cars, and things of the sort.

Below you’ll find tons of gift ideas for every type of guy imaginable! Check out the slide show with “Sports Dad, Business Dad. Tech Dad, and the Fashion Dad.” Several..well there’s quite A LOT of cool things. Seriously, even if the guy doesn’t fit into one of these categories, there’s still something there that he’ll love.

Click the arrow to view more…

Now, for the “tie thing”: if you’re going to get a man a tie, the first thing you want to do is, make sure he actually wears ties. Second, double check his closet to see if he doesn’t already have one similar to the one you’re purchasing. Third, don’t get a crazy tie…you know, one of those ties with beach balls and sandcastles on it.

Yea, don’t go that route.

Unless your dad is Craig Sager…

…then of course buy the beach ball tie!

Have you seen his closet? My goodness it’s like a living rainbow! Check out this Esquire piece on Mr. Sager’s many many suits… NBA Sideline Suits

Ok, lastly, in this whole “tie thing” spend some money on it! I know this sounds a little materialistic but trust me, if you want the man to wear the tie you bought, it’s gotta be bad! Bad meaning extremely dope and good of course. Plus, he’ll wear the tie into the office and brag about getting it. Men love office water cooler talk just like us.

If all else fails, simply ask the stubborn man what he’d like and voila, you’ll have the perfect gift in no time! There’s about four days to pick up any of these items but don’t worry, everything I picked is available at a store near you.

Tennis in Paris: The French Open

J’adore Paris!

As you guys know, I absolutely love sports, almost as much as I love fashion and shopping! Tennis is a sport that I can watch every single day regardless of who’s on the court. Can’t quite put my finger on it but it does something for me. That something feels even bigger when the French Open rolls around. Played in Paris, France, Roland Garros is my favorite tennis tournament. It’s in PARIS for my hearts’ sake! I took french in high school and undergrad so it always holds a special place to me. Being in awe of the structures and architecture shown on the television screen during the matches, I’m in heaven. This also gives me a reason to brush up on my french lessons.

This years tournament features a woman who is practically fluent in the language of love, that is french. No, seriously, you guys, Serena Williams speaks french…in interviews and in front of the camera!

rolandgarros.com

It’s been eleven years since an American won at Roland Garros and it’s only fitting that the title once again belongs to Serena Williams. After falling in the first round to Virginie Razzano of France in 2012, Serena powered her way back to become the “Queen of the Red Clay” once more for 2013.

After battling through illness and coaching changes, Serena powered through the rest of the tennis season last year to regain world number one. This seemed to only fuel her determination to win and win she did. Winning almost every tournament she entered, Serena was/is a force to be reckoned with. On the road to the final at the French Open, Serena Williams faced, overpowered top players like, Sorana Cirstea, Roberta Vinci and Sara Errani to name a few.

To gauge how incredible Serena is…she only dropped ONE SET the entire tournament and that was to Svetlana Kuznetsova. That’s 1 out of 15 sets played.

So yea, the women is bad!

Facing Maria Sharapova in the final championship round, Serena cruised passed last years trophy holder 6-4, 6-4 without dropping a set. Capturing her 16th Grand Slam title and second French Open title. Next up for the WTA’s top lady is The Championships at Wimbledon!

Pictured above, Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams share the spotlight for a brief moment before the match began. Both women are Nike athletes…can you IMAGINE the money both Nike and their star athletes will make from this?! Sheesh! I mean, I’m ready to purchase Maria’s dress and Serena’s jacket right now! Of course I don’t stand a chance on a clay court but at least I’ll look good doing it.

Below, both players are walking across the court during a change-over (aka, after someone won a point, they switched ends, got water, then toweled off before settling at opposite ends.) I’m not sure what moment in the match this was but both women look to be in the zone and focused on the task at hand.

Fellow Americans, Bob and Mike Bryan (The Bryan Brothers) captured a second title at Roland Garros in the Men’s Doubles final. Defeating french countrymen Nicolas Mahut and Michael Llodra  6-4, 4-6, 7-6(4) to complete a ten year gap between French Open titles. Today was definitely about the top players staying on top and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

If you’re up early today (Sunday) you’ll be able to catch the Men’s Championship match between Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer (Ferrer, not to be confused with Federer.)  This match will be crazy good!

Can’t wait to see what we’re in store during the rest of the 2013 tennis season!

UPDATE: Rafael Nadal claims his 8th Grand Slam Title and makes history while winning the French Open at Roland Garros! Beating David Ferrer 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 in a little over 2 hours.

Chicks Dig The Long Ball

This chick digs it!

It’s no secret around here that I’m a girl who loves her sports. Being a sports fan has its ups and downs but of course when you love your team, you stand by your team. You go to the games, watch them on TV and cheer them on…even go into your home teams stadium and cheer for the opposing team (in my case.) This happens every sports season and baseball season is no different. You can hear me screaming and yelling at the TV or a streaming internet connection. Yep, I’m *that* girl.

So when I heard my favorite MLB team the Atlanta Braves were coming to Detroit to play the Tigers, I couldn’t wait to get tickets! Of course, once the tickets went on sale there were snatched up pretty quickly. Not a problem when  StubHub exists, thank you StubHub! Now my only problem is, what does a girl wear to a baseball game in Michigan during an extended winter in April.

Take Me Out

Ahhh, I happened to work my fashion magic! The game will start off with the sun shining but it will quickly do a 180 and turn chilly as the night time air rolls into the downtown part of the city. As the weather will change from sunny to semi-cold, I went with a warm quilted sweater jacket. The team tee paired with skinny jeans is ALWAYS a hit no matter what you’re doing (plus I want to be comfortable sitting for 3-4 hours outside.) Add some comfy and stylish Nike Jordan kicks and a crossbody (hands-free) bag and VOILA!

I am ready for some baseball!!
