End of Summer Style

Summer is just about over!  For those in between days when it’s not quite cool enough for a sweater and you still want to look cute, what to do? Or if you’re like me, you want to get at least one more wear out of that perfect summer maxi dress…

0park2Simply pair a denim jacket and sandals with your maxi dress and you’re all set to go for a Sunday stroll in the park!

Dress: Perfectly Priscilla

Shoes: Pour La Victoire

Jacket: Old Navy

Phone Case: Kate Spade

plus size maxi dressOf course I took my furry baby beagle Chipper (who’s now 5 and loves to pull me) for a walk through the park! Dubbed “Great Expectations Maxi Dress by Perfectly Priscilla” is spot on! Needless to say this dress meets and exceeds my expectations! It is both cute and functional, isn’t heavy so it doesn’t weigh me down. It isn’t too thin, so no one will be able see through the fabric! I am absolutely in love with this dress! It’s the perfect length even for my short 5’3″ frame without any alterations.

Speaking of the fabric…the print! Oh my gosh, the print!

Perfectly priscilla maxi dress

It has a very Moroccan motif that I’m absolutely in love with! The material is perfect for summer or an almost fall day. Bonus: the upper part of the strapless dress is lined!

Must say, I’m pretty excited about fall weather coming. For me, there’s nothing better than a pair of jeans and a sweater when the air is crisp. Can’t wait to see what Perfectly Priscilla has in store for the fall and winter! I’ll definitely grab a couple of stylish things.

What To Wear: Visiting His Family for the Holidays

So he spent Thanksgiving with you and your family now it’s time for you to head to his folks’ place for Christmas. Well, that all sounds like a fun time until you start freaking out about what to wear!

No worries!

First, ask yourself these 3 questions:

  1. Where will you be going? (i.e. city, country, cold state or warm place)
  2. How long will you be there? (you’re going to need more than one outfit)
  3. Is it casual or formal?

Once you have the answers to those questions, it’s waaaay easier to narrow down your outfit choices.

If you’re still having trouble figuring it all out…I’m here to help!

Here are several plus size outfit ideas for any weather.

look one

Look one is perfect for the casual holiday gathering and features a cute versatile plus size Danica top from Fashion To Figure, Lena black stretch pants from Lane Bryant and square gift box Kate Spade clutch that I am absolutely DYING to have in my collection right now! (Hint hint wink wink 🙂 )

holiday look two

Look two is just a little bit more fancy/dressier than look one but still has all the comfort. A gorgeous “darling batwing” peplum top in a creamy white color from Fashion To Figure that will hide any problem areas (uh win!) Attention! jeweled shoes from Kmart (yes, THAT Kmart) in a perfect shade of camel. The featured gold DVF bag is currently sold out on Nordstrom.com but you can find similar bags by clicking here or visit DVF.com. Coated black pants that will more than likely have you feeling sexier than ever from Lane Bryant. Your man will probably want to rip them off of you once the night is over!

holiday look three

Look three gives you wonderful plus size outfit ideas that are dressier and well, um…dresses (and a skirt)! If you’ll attend a more formal event/dinner with his family, these dresses are shape flattering and perfect for any holiday dinner event! I tried to pick dresses that stayed within a “holiday color scheme” so you won’t stick out in a bad way. The red & black lace trimmed dresses are from Eloquii, the black velvety soft princess seem dress is from eshakti (which custom fits your clothes with the measurements you send them! From size 0-36W, they’ll be sure to give you a great piece! Last but not least, the Dia chevron foil skirt from Fashion To Figure. Bonus, these dresses can totally be worn more than once to any type of shindig later on. The shoes are in no particular order, mix and match as you please!

Each holiday look idea, is featured with a dressier shoe. Whether it’s a flat or a heel, be sure that whatever shoe you choose is comfortable enough to wear for a couple of hours. You can also pull your sneakers out of the car or carry some really comfy slipper socks in your purse for this exact occasion! I’m sure his folks will understand. Of course with most of America having a “heat wave” it’s kind of hard to dress for 60+ degrees in December so those looks are all perfect with or without a coat.

Have fun and Happy Holidays!

What To Wear For Date Night: Operation Valentine’s Day

Is it February already?

Next thing you know, we’ll be complaining about how hot it is instead of the 20 inches of snow outside! Until then, we’re getting ready for a date on Valentine’s Day!

Recently, I was asked, to share what I’d wear on a date on one of the most romantic nights of the year. Back in 2014, I put together several outfits that any plus size woman could wear on this day, flashback with me here. Date night fashion can be a tough thing to tackle, ugh the struggle.

First things first, even though this is my idea of date night fashion, here’s something everyone can benefit from…

Casual Date Night: Valentine's Day

Now, moving on to the good stuff…THE CLOTHES! Oh, and the shoes! We all have a favorite pair of jeans that make our butt look absolutely ahh-mazing so start with those and get to adding!

Casual Date Night: Valentine's Day

From…

  • Moto-boots to strappy stiletto’s
  • A clutch to a chain link cross-body

AND

  • Several options for tops

I think I’ve covered just about all the bases for a casual date! As I mentioned earlier, there really isn’t a need to go out and buy something new, especially when most of us already have TONS of options hiding somewhere in the closet, like me. (Blah, I really need to start getting rid of stuff! Garage sale anyone?!)

Anywho, save the money you were going to spend on something nice like, hmm, I don’t know…a pedicure maybe! Those are always nice. Plus, if the lucky guy is a great date…well, you know how that can go. (PSA: protect yourself!)

No matter where my honey takes me (hopefully he let’s me know it’s a casual place beforehand) I’ll be set to look my best.

Fashion at The Australian Open 2015

After two weeks of intense racket swinging, the opener to the 2015 tennis season is now down to a handful of competitors.  The Australian Open 2015 has had many upsets and surprises but its also had some AMAZING sports fashion.

As a huge tennis fan, I couldn’t wait for the 2015 season to get underway so the fashion side of things fell to the sidelines. There’s no better time to shine a spotlight on winning fashion than to showcase the player who’ve made to the quarter finals and semifinals of a grand slam!

Fashion at the Australian Open 2015 featured in this post, are Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams, Eugenie Bouchard, Madison Keys, Venus Williams, and their smashing colors were as loud as their swings on the court!

Nike is CLEARLY shelling out the Lycra, Dri-Fit, and sponsorships throughout the sport of tennis but there are plenty more designers in sportswear. If you visit Midwest Sports, you’ll see many different styles and designers that create great fashion sportswear.

Maybe Nike should cut me a check for loving on these styles….hmm…just a thought.

My personal favorite, Eleven by Venus Williams is available for purchase online or visit Eleven by Venus Williams to find a retailer near you. I’m a fan of clothes that are designed by a real person who not only plays the sport they’re designed for but wears the line during tournaments throughout the year. It’s like a plus-size woman designing clothes for other plus-size women…it just works. They understand how the body moves.

Bright, brighter and brightest seems to be the way to go for sporting the latest fashion while breaking a sweat and I’m very okay with that.

Bring on the day glow fluro!!

A Plus Size Halloween DIY Costume

It’s that spooky time again!

Halloween is fun for so many reasons. Mainly because we all get to dress up and be carefree kids again!

It’ll more than likely be chilly on Halloween here in Michigan so usually any costume that might be “sexy” or revealing is out. Especially if I have to stand outside wainting in line to get into whatever packed club/party my friends want to go to. This makes picking out a costume a very hard task.

So this year, instead of buying an already premade packaged plus size costume that sometimes doesn’t fit, I decided to DIY a costime.

Easier said than done.

Here’s my Halloween costume idea for 2014…

cleocostume

I’ve been out searching for weeks to find all the pieces and parts needed to make this lovely Cleopatra/Egyptian Goddess but didn’t have much luck.

Walking through the aisles of the fabric store, I hear the numbers being shouted “85, 89…” I look up from the piles of fabric to realize, they’re actually calling numbers just to get fabric! Four stores later…..I have in my possession, pieces of a costume. Maybe I should start looking in April for 2015’s costume idea!

So the search continues.

I wanted to have everything together to share with you guys so you too can make it with me.

Stay tuned and be ready to hit the streets or stay in for a party on Halloween night!

New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2015 — Marissa Webb

Marissa Webb won’t ever do anything wrong in my book!

She was once the head designer at J.Crew before venturing out into the fashion world with her own label. As a fashion chick who absolutely loves straight lines, Marissa will always be my BFF in my head. Since I don’t work in the traditional office setting,  I live vicariously through the girl she designs for. That girl is young, fresh faced and professional and might work in a place requires a jacket or suit pieces everyday.

The collection for spring and summer is very breezy and easy-going with just a touch of structure coming through in jackets.

This collection has “American bad ass and flirty girl” written all over it! Needless to say, I’m totally here for it!

Wowcracy: Call The Tune Best Outfit Challenge #CTToutfit

A couple of weeks ago, I received an invite to participate in Wowcracys’ Best Outfit Challenge. I get a few offers to collaborate with brands, stores, and the like…some I accept and others I reluctantly turn down for whatever reason. This invite was too good to resist!

What it is Wowcracy, you ask?

Well, in short, it’s crowd funding for fashion designers. To be exact… “Wowcracy is where fashion designers and brands can constantly showcase their upcoming collections. Everyone can pre-order new creations in real time and set a new fashion trend.”

Usually, Wowcracy allows the designers to “call the tune” and the new fashion trend but for this particular challenge, they reached out to fashion bloggers. The challenge was/is to create a look for the upcoming 2014-2015 fall and winter season then post that look to Instagram. They clearly didn’t know I just packed and stored all of my winter clothes lol! On top of that, I absolutely hate taking pictures so this was a true challenge for me indeed!

Whoever wins this challenge will have the most ‘likes’ on Instagram. That means YOU, yes YOU need to get your double tap workout on and like-like-like! The pics will be tagged #CTToutfit.

Below is one of the looks that I styled for myself…this IS already posted to my Instagram feed so get to “liking” it!

Dress: Forever 21+

Boots: Marc Jacobs

Jacket: Vintage

This was totally out of character for me, I know BUT absolutely fun nonetheless! Of course, me being the clumsiest and least photogenic person I know…will have a moment in front of the camera for a change! It’s much easier being a stylist than a model (at least that’s what the voices in my head say.)

If there’s any plus size fashion designers or any type of up and coming designers out there, I’d love to collaborate for this project! The deadline is June 30th (short notice, I know) but if not this year, definitely next season we can do something fun!

Classic Style: Plus Size Outfit Ideas

Remember the basics?

The classics?

It’s so easy to forget these days with new trends popping up every other week. Yes, some trends are dope and fun to wear but sometimes, you just want to wrap yourself in a regular pair of boyfriend jeans and a tee!

Recently, I was selected by La Redoute (a fashion store based in the UK) to participate in a competition for fashion bloggers. This competition gives a special blogger a chance to become La Redoutes’ Brand Ambassador and win a trip to Paris! If you’ve been reading along here, you know that I absolutely LOVE Paris!

Needless to say, I hopped on this opportunity! The competition was to simple create a post to display MY personal Style Secrets. This is what this post is about…the classics. My absolute fave classic pieces are just that, jeans and crisp white top.
