Lights Out: Superbowl Halftime Show

Turn the lights out.
The show is over people.
By now everyone has seen the Pepsi Halftime Show featuring Beyoncé. If you haven’t, I’ve got you covered with a glimpse of what we were privy to. Guess who was right…that’s right! It’s me, it’s me! I called it yesterday. Beyoncé would have a couple surprise guests on stage with her during the Pepsi Halftime Show. I guessed right! After performing several of her own hits, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams joined Beyoncé on stage for a Destiny’s Child reunion!
Twitter went absolutely nuts as the show time approached! Good thing the good people at Twitter have new servers now…remember the “fail whale” of Twitters’ past?! The site and api would shutdown any time something major happened and tweets rushed in. The buzz was definitely, entirely and utterly about Queen Bey. Practically every trending topic during and following her performance, had something to do with Beyoncé. My timeline exploded with excitement and lots of impatient fans ready to the get the show started.
As the show began, we were electrified with this incredible light show that embodied the side profile of Beyoncé. This is also the stage. I need to get the architects contact information so I can get something like this built in my closet! All jokes aside, it looks amazing!
Dressed in leather and lace designed by Rubin Singer, Beyoncé performed hit after hit. Including “Halo,” “Love on Top,” “Baby Boy,” and “Single Ladies.”
Rubin Singer also designed the outfits for Destiny’s Child members as well as the other background performers. Talk about a designer task!
These ladies looked absolutely FLAWLESS!
Maybe a little leather and lace will be good for our 2013 wardrobe…hmmm.
Once, the mini reunion wrapped, our blonde bombshell finished her performance with “Halo.” It goes without saying she shut the SuperDome d-o-w-n! Lights out. Literally. After Beyoncé performed her 12 minute set, the super bowl was set to resume, except there weren’t any lights on one side of the field. The light mishap wasn’t the fault of Bey but many on Twitter and Facebook ended with that assumption. She absolutely outdid herself and I’m contemplating getting tickets to her upcoming tour entitled “The Mrs. Carter Show” nonetheless!

Beyonce + Football = Pepsi Half-Time Show

Half-time at any sporting event usually means it’s time to have a break. You get up, get some snacks, grab a full meal or even walk around the stadium to stretch your legs. That’s just when you’re watching any game during the regular season but we’re not talking about the regular season today. We’re talking about half-time at the SUPER BOWL! The last game of the year. The game that everyone who’s anyone shows up to or watches. The game where the winner takes all and has bragging rights forever. This means only the best entertainment will do during half-time. For Super Bowl XLVII the Pepsi Halftime Show will feature none other than the once single lady,  Beyoncé!

Are you ready for some Beyoncé?

I think everyone is ready for this Pepsi halftime show! I’m anxious to see who Queen Bey pulls onto the stage to perform with her. Thinking there may be more than one surprise performer stepping into the stage lights. Perhaps THREE even! Yes, three! This feels like it would be the perfect time for a Destiny’s Child reunion don’t-cha think?! 2013 definitely needs some more girl power! Maybe a mash-up of chart toppers from the trio would be just what the music Gods ordered. Or, will we see what fans always love to see… Beyoncé pulling her amazing and talented rapper husband Jay-Z onstage! I personally vote for all of the above! Practice makes perfect for a secret big time production such as this.

Beyoncé is definitely practicing up a storm!

This will be a BIG production!

We will soon know what songs will be coming through that microphone!

This we know for sure, we will be entertained no matter what! The pics from rehearsals (taken for Beyoncé’s  personal Tumblr page) above, show a performance ensemble of dancers, bands and singers so the show is sure please our senses. Countdown to kick-off has begun and there are only a few hours left to go. We won’t have to wait much longer for the big game or the big Pepsi Halftime Show.

Bey looks ready!

Are you?

Advice Wanted: Style Help for A Curves And Coffee Reader

Read All About It!

“Hi Rena, and help please!  My hubby scored us tickets to the NBA All-Star game in a couple of weeks, but I’ve never been to a basketball game before and have no idea what to wear!  I know that style runs high at the All-Star game and I want to fit in.  However, I fear walking the fine line between sexy and overdoing it . . . after all, as hubby reminds me, it’s about the game.  But to me it’s very much about the fashion!  I am a regular reader and I know you are into sports and style, and that’s why I’m seeking your advice.  What the heck is appropriate yet stylish attired for the NBA All-Star game?

Thanks so much!

Jen”

How bout that?! Two of my favorite things…fashion and sports! It doesn’t get any better than this folks!

Hi Jen, I’m so glad you decided to ask for my style help! Definitely came to the right place! It’s easier than you think to be stylish without over doing it. I put together two sets of ideas. I figured you’d want to be sexy but also comfortable. No need to get all dressed up to have fun and you’re uncomfortable! At least that’s what I say. Yes, beauty means pain (sometimes) but not when it comes to sporting events. The hardest thing to plan for is weather! We’ve all had some crazy things happening lately in the weather department but Houston should be a nice mix of warm and cool, nothing drastic. So, with that in mind, here are several ideas for NBA All-Star Weekend.

All Star WeekendIn this first group, I picked a casual outfit that’s both sexy and sophisticated. A pair of jeans and a simple blouse. This should allow for the weather as well. Roll both the sleeves and jeans up for an extra breeze if it gets too warm. Shoes and bags are all preference. I’m both a sneaker head and a heels chick so my closet looks exactly like these choices. Anything goes. The Nike Jordan brand sneaks are perfect if there’s lots of walking involved but the platform heels are just the right amount of sexpot needed in an arena full of athletes.

NBA All-Star Weekend

Next up, the second group of ideas…BLAZERS! A blazer can be worn no matter the temperature outside. Dressed up or dressed down, trust me, it works! Worn with jeans (of course) for the casual look or mixed with a pair of leggings and you’re all set for a night on the town. Now, the tricky part is the choice for shoes…flats, Converse, wedges or even Toms work flawlessly! There’s so much to choose from!

So, there you have it! Two different ways to be stylish, sexy and sophisticated at a sporting event! I gotta say, this was a total blast to do! I’m glad you guys and gals are finding what you need in Curves and Coffee everyday. Definitely a good blend of curves and caffeine to get your fashion fix…with a little bit of sports and stuff thrown in!
Hope this helps Jen and anyone else thinking about how to style a sporty weekend. Happy Shopping!

Buffalo Chicken Cheese Balls

Aaron  McCargo Jr. for Food Network

Ingredients
1 store-bought rotisserie chicken
1/4 cup hot sauce (recommended: Frank’s Red Hot)
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 3/4 cups sharp Cheddar
1/4 cup freshly sliced scallions
1 cups all-purpose flour
3 eggs, lightly beaten
2 cups panko bread crumbs
Vegetable oil, for frying
Blue Cheese Dip:
1 1/2 cups mayonnaise
1/2 cup packed blue cheese, broken up
1/2 teaspoon hot sauce
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 lemon, juiced
1 teaspoon chopped garlic
Directions
Have oil heated to 350 degrees F.

Pick the meat from the chicken and discard the skin. Place the chicken in a large bowl and add the hot sauce, pepper, cheese, and scallions, and toss to combine. Roll the chicken into 2-ounce balls, about the size of a golf ball.

Place the flour, eggs, and bread crumbs in 3 separate bowls. Roll each ball in the flour, then the egg and then the bread crumbs. Set aside.

When the oil is hot fry the chicken balls in batches. Cook for about 2 minutes per batch. Remove the chicken to paper towel lined plate to drain the excess oil.

To make the sauce, combine all ingredients in a large bowl and adjust the seasoning if necessary. Serve the chicken alongside the dipping sauce.

Pigskins in a Blanket

Food Network Kitchens
Ingredients
One 13-ounce package kielbasa
All-purpose flour, for rolling
One 17.3-ounce package frozen puff pastry, thawed
(I would use Pilsbury Crescent Rolls…much easier)
1 large egg, lightly beaten
1/3 cup mustard, such as Dijon, whole grain, spicy brown or yellow, for dipping

Directions
Split the kielbasa in half lengthwise and then cut each half into six 3/4-inch pieces, slicing on an angle. Cook the pieces in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat until the skin is crisped and some of the fat has been released, about 5 minutes. Transfer the kielbasa to a paper towel-lined plate to cool.

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.

On a lightly floured surface, roll one piece of puff pastry out to form an 8- by 11-inch rectangle. Using a 3 1/2-inch round cookie cutter, cut out 6 circles from the pastry; cut the circles out as close together as possible and reserve the scraps. Repeat with the second sheet of puff pastry.

Wrap a circle of puff pastry around each of a kielbasa, pinching the seams together to seal all the way around so no kielbasa is exposed and gently pulling on the ends to make a tapered football shape. Place on an ungreased baking sheet, seam-side down, and repeat with the remaining pastry and sausage.

Brush the rolled sausages with the beaten egg. Use bits of the pastry scraps to make laces on each “football” by placing 1 strip lengthwise on top of each and laying 3 smaller strip crosswise over it. Press down gently to adhere and brush the laces with a bit more egg.

Bake until the pastry is browned and crisped, 25 to 30 minutes. Serve the pigskins with mustard for dipping.

Ingredients

  • Canola oil
  • Zest of 1 lime
  • 3/4 teaspoon plus 1 pinch kosher salt
  • Twelve 6-inch corn tortillas, each cut into 6 wedges
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 small jalapeno pepper, seeded, if desired, and
  • finely chopped
  • 1 plum tomato, seeded and finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup Mexican lager-style beer (such as Corona)
  • 12 ounces muenster or Monterey Jack, grated (about 3 1/2 cups)
  • 4 ounces sharp white Cheddar, grated (about 1 1/2 cups)
  • Directions
  • Pour oil to a depth of 2 inches into a medium saucepan. Heat over medium-high heat until a deep-frying thermometer inserted in the oil reaches 350 degrees F. In a small bowl, mix the lime zest and 3/4 teaspoon salt together. Working in batches, fry the tortilla wedges until golden and crisp, about 1 minute, and transfer them to a paper towel-lined baking sheet with a slotted spoon. Sprinkle the chips with the lime salt while they are still hot. Set aside.
  • Heat 1 tablespoon canola oil in a 10-inch cast-iron or ovenproof skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onions, jalapeno and a pinch of salt and cook until the onions just start to brown, about 5 minutes. Add the tomato and cook until softened, about 1 minute. Add the beer and cook until all the liquid has evaporated, about 7 minutes. Remove the skillet from the heat. Toss the muenster and Cheddar together and add them to the skillet. Stir once or twice to combine.
  • When ready to serve, preheat the broiler. Place the skillet under the broiler until the cheese is bubbling and lightly browned on top, 2 to 3 minutes. Serve hot with the chips.
  • Cook’s Note: Although this cheesy dip should be eaten fresh from the oven, you can have everything ready to go before your guests arrive. You can fry, season and cool the chips and store them for 2 to 3 hours in an airtight container. Cook the vegetables and reduce the beer, then remove the skillet from the heat. Grate your cheeses and combine them. When you’re ready to serve, stir the cheese into the vegetables, broil and enjoy.

Tennis Down Under with the Williams’ Sisters

Tennis, anyone?

The 2013 tennis season is now underway down under! Kicking the year off in Australia for the Australian Open, the men and women of the tennis world got busy on the courts. Busy using their rackets you dirty minded people, get your heads out of the gutter!

The very stylish and curvalicious Serena Williams definitely showed us her flare for fashion in Australia.  She won her first match easily 6-0 6-0 despite having a dangerous and scary fall during the first set of the match. As of now she said she’s feeling OK but a little sore after rolling her ankle. I must say, she did take a very stylish fall and I hope she heals quickly and continues to kick butt!

Stylish Sisters Unite
Venus & Serena Williams
At an event in Australia
Let’s take a closer look at her tennis attire for a day down under.
Of course Serena the manicurist had her nails done! So cute with bows and everything!
What’s an outfit without shoes? Nike outfitted Serena with these bright sneaks that have a tribal design.
These are one of a kind so they aren’t available for sale.
We can always dream!
Speaking of tribal, there’s a matching headband!
Here’s the actual tennis dress from Nike.
Very purple but it works with the contrast of colors.
You can purchase any of these Nike items here at the Nike Store and you don’t have to be a tennis player to do so! How great is that?!

Super Bowl Bling: The Lombardi Trophy

Now that the biggest college football game of the year is over, wait, was that really a game? Notre Dame literally got their heads handed to them on a silver platter! Final score after 4 quarters of football: Alabama 42 – ND 14. Yea let’s just say it was a game simply because ND wasn’t left scoreless.  In more sad news, my losing Dallas Cowboys fired our defense coach Rob Ryan…speechless doesn’t even begin to describe how I felt when I heard the news.

Since my favorite NFL team is out of the Vince Lombardi Trophy hunt and college football is over, there won’t be much football left to enjoy. What else is there to look forward to besides baseball? If you’re a fan of tennis, the Australian Open starts next week, I’m happy. Then there’s college hoops and NBA basketball. If those aren’t your favorite sporting events, you’re probably looking forward to the big one. The Super Bowl.  We’ll get closer to finding out who’ll be playing after this weekends playoff games. Who’s going to be able to hoist the Lombardi on February 3rd?

Ok, I’m probably boring my fashion readers by now, if you’re still here LOL! I do have something for everyone just in case you’re wondering. The Vince Lombardi Trophy (given to the winner of the Super Bowl) is made by Tiffany & Co. believe it or not! So ladies, if you’re not a sports fan, just think of him watching and waiting to see who wins the “Tiffany Trophy” & who’s getting a “Tiffany Ring”!

It pains and angers me so much to see that New York Giants ring posted on here! That’s the ring that the New York Giants won last year. Amazing, right?! Yes those are D-I-A-M-O-N-D-S ladies and gents! Made by Tiffany & Co. Too bad those NY Giants won’t be defending their title, oh yea, that’s correct, they sucked this year too! So that made the pain and anguish feel a little better. I still feel the need to show you a glimpse of what the Dallas Cowboys have won! I’ll be glad when we win more!

The next time your girlfriend/wife/significant other says she wants something from Tiffany & Co. remember those are the people who make the Lombardi trophy.  She put up with you watching football all year long, she definitely deserves a little blue box!

Shopping For A Cause

During the month of October (Breast Cancer Awareness Month <—why it’s important to me) many stores, brands and companies are offering products in “Pink”!!  How exciting is that?!  If you purchase these “Pink” products, that brand will donate a portion (in some cases, all) of the proceeds to a breast cancer charity or research fund.  It doesn’t get any better than that!  You get to shop your little shopaholic heart out AND give to a great cause!

In case you need a little incentive to shop this weekend…

Since I am a football fanatic…

iPhone Case-proceeds to BCA

As many know, my Grandmother passed away from breast cancer three years ago… I would do anything to help the cause of finding a cure!  If it even helps just blogging about what items to buy or even just wearing a pink ribbon, I’ll do it.  No matter how big or how small, just know you can help.

And don’t forget….

CHECK THOSE BOOBIES!!!

Team Spirit

The countdown for football season is officially down to single digits people!

Football?

Yes, FOOTBALL!

Chicks are fans too and I’m a diehard fan for ALL of my favorite teams!

If you’re like me, you like to look good and represent while watching or attending any sporting events.  Well thank goodness for other sports fanatics like Alyssa Milano (LA Dodgers number one fan) she even had her baby shower AT DODGERS STADIUM! Seriously, future hubby…think Atlanta Braves and Turner Field for any big day in our lives!

Anywho, Alyssa Milano aka mom aka wife aka super actress aka gorgeous….just so happens to design sports team clothing for women!  I definitely want to be like her when I grow up!  The line is called “Touch” and hellooooo double bonus…she provides sizes from XS-4XL!!!

BELIEVE IT!!!

Say goodbye to always wearing a “pink” jersey when your team colors are red and blue!  Don’t get me wrong, I love pink, clearly, but sometimes I don’t want to look like a bubblegum drop while shouting obscenities at a ballpark.

This line has been around for a couple of years now and I absolutely love it.  Not only can I find a shirt to fit over the boobies BUT I can buy more than one because they’re priced just right!

Check out Touch by Alyssa Milano at FANDALIA.COM

Almost all of your fave teams and sports are represented!  I chose to do all my hometown teams because, well, I love my city and because every sport and team in Michigan is down with Touch!
